Max Garrison (Bartione) (1867–1927)


Originally he studied violin and was active as first violinist in the orchestra of the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In 1890 he studied singing at the conservatoire of Dresden, where he was a pupil of Gustav Scharfe. After his debut at the Stadttheater in Elberfeld, where he appeared in the 1893-1896 seasons, he made guest appearances at the different operatic stages in Germany (among other things in Wroclaw) and then joined in 1896 to the Hofoper in Vienna, here he made hius debut as Tonio  in ‘’Pagliacci’’. He sang in this opera house two years. In 1900 he appeared at the Theater in Vienna in operettas and took part in the 1901-1902 season in a Russia tour with a Vienna operetta ensemble. Later in Berlin he was a respected pedagogue. He was a brother of the actor Robert Garrison (1872-1930).
